So, I’ve noticed that my body has been feeling really “off” lately. I haven’t been sleeping well and I have little to no energy most days. I suffer from eczema and other skin issues, but my skin has been acting extra cray cray. I keep getting headaches and I suddenly have debilitating seasonal allergies (I usually don’t suffer from seasonal allergies much at all). There are lots of other weird feelings and symptoms I’ve been having. Like I said, I just feel “off.”
One day, I was browsing through Instagram and came across a picture about toxic bodies. It basically said your body may be toxic if you suffer from certain things like low energy, mood swings/anxiety, sugar cravings, binge eating, difficulty concentrating, headaches, etc. As I read through the list, I was able to check off pretty much everything. That made me open my internet browser to look up more signs my body may be suffering from a build-up of toxicity. I found a few more familiar signs: rashes/skin issues, difficulty sleeping, allergies, weight gain, depression, bloating. ::ding, ding, ding:: I suffer from all of thee above!! Could this explain why I’ve been feeling so BLUH? I immediately started to get excited thinking that there could be something I could do to help eliminate all these symptoms at once. BUT, then I started to feel skeptical. Suddenly all the “symptoms” I was reading about started to sound like those horoscopes that could really apply to anyone… Aquarius, you like to have fun and you are the best kisser. I mean, come on!
We’ve all seen the different detox systems: pills, teas, drink concoctions, foot pads, body wraps, foot baths, diets, and such. I’ve always felt like detoxing the body from time to time was probably beneficial, but have always been pretty skeptical of all these different detox plans I see advertised on tv and on the internet. The ones that involve taking a ton of expensive pills or basically starving yourself are especially unappealing to me. I have, however, done a 3-day juicing cleanse. I felt a lot better after I did it, but I did feel like I was kind of starving myself during the process (even though I was getting loads of nutrients)
Around this same time that I was thinking about how I could detox my body in a way I felt comfortable with, someone I work with started talking to me about a green smoothie cleanse she was doing. Right off the bat I was skeptical. I mean, I love green smoothies! BUT, I didn’t want to have nothing but green smoothies for who knows how many days. This girl needs to chew! I also didn’t want to buy some expensive smoothie powder and/or supplements. I asked her questions and found out this cleanse was 10 days and did not involve ordering any powders or supplements; you just buy real, organic food and blend it! I was also excited to learn that you can snack on things like apples, crunchy veggies, unsweetened nut butters, hard boiled eggs, and raw nuts. I can totally do that! The cleanse even allows you to add your own protein powder to the green smoothie if you plan on having an intense workout. This cleanse didn’t sound like I’d be starving myself at all, it sounded like I’d be healing my body and detoxing off of sugar and processed crap by eating real food and enjoying the green smoothies I’ve come to love… I’d just be having them three times a day instead of just once.
The book is called the 10-day Green Smoothie Cleanse and it was created by JJ Smith, a nutritionist and certified weight-loss expert. JJ states that by completing the cleanse, “you can expect to lose some weight, increase your energy levels, reduce cravings, clear your mind, and improve your digestion and overall health.” Of course, the cover of the book claims that you can lose up to 15lbs in 10 days. Although my friend did lose close to 15lbs, I’m not trying this cleanse to lose weight fast. I just want to FEEL better and eat better on a more consistent basis. JJ claims the cleanse will “retrain your taste buds to desire and crave healthier foods.” That would be awesome! I figure, with all the clean eating I’ll be doing and the nutrients I’ll be taking in, this skeptic has nothing to lose over these 10 days.
I had some things come up, so I won’t be starting the cleanse until this weekend. I can’t wait to share my first impression with you guys next week! If you want, you can get a free sneak peek of the book here. Maybe we can try the cleanse together.
