Fit Mom Karlye // Pushing Forward

Fit-Mom-MonikerHi, guys!  Last week I told you all about some apps I was going to use during the month of April to help keep me more consistent on my weight loss journey.  First, I have to admit that I am not in love with the Water Daily app.  I love the simplistic look of  it, but I hate that I can’t customize the different water amounts.  For instance, my favorite water bottle is 24 ounces and that is not one of the options.  I also didn’t like that there didn’t seem to be an easy way to undo mistakes… and this girl makes mistakes! Lol. The app is easy on the eyes, but it needs a few tweaks to be more user-friendly.  I will definitely be going back to using the Water Your Body app this week (if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it).  The good news is I’m LOVING my Weple Diary.  I feel like it definitely helped keep me more consistent during this past week.  I still had some slip ups, but I was more aware of the things I was eating/doing so I found myself making better choices.

Last week I mentioned I had two events scheduled in April that would be my cheat meals. The first is my son’s 6th birthday party, which was Saturday.  The theme was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so of course we had pizza!  And, it was a birthday party, so of course we had cupcakes and ice cream (my kryptonite).  I made sure there were also some healthy snacks (celery, carrots, strawberries, grapes, and cuties) because, although I had planned to eat pizza and dessert, I didn’t want to go too crazy.  I also wanted to encourage the kids to have some healthy food along with their pizza.  To my surprise, they were excited about the veggies cups (carrots and celery with ranch at the bottom) they had with their lunch.  Fit mom win!!!

As planned, I had my healthy items and my cheat items. However, I feel like I had cheat items throughout the weekend, and that was not my plan at all.  As you guys know, I’m an emotional/stress eater, and the weekend was super stressful for me.  Friday night, in the middle of running errands for the party, I got a flat tire while in the fast lane on the highway.  Roadside assistance couldn’t seem to find me, my battery died from having my hazard lights on for so long, and my 6-yr-old was scared and crying in the back seat.  Two hours later, we were finally able to move my car after some help from a complete stranger and my sister’s roommate.  Yes, my sister and her roommate were able to find us, but roadside assistance couldn’t. The tow truck never came!!  My car was pretty much out of commission most of the weekend because I didn’t have time to deal with it; I had an epic party to throw!  I was still dealing with the car on Sunday AND Monday… Ughhhh.  The car situation was a source of much stress and I found myself snacking a little too much.  Because of that, I feel like it is that much more important to eat super clean this week.  I have to push forward!

Sunday wasn’t all stress.  In the morning, my sister and I participated in the Cherry Blossom 5k run/walk.  This is my favorite 5k and I have been lucky enough to run it two other times.  This run is so pretty; the beginning and end of the route is lined with cherry blossom trees and the middle takes you up and over the Arlington Memorial Bridge.  The views of our Nation’s Capital and it’s monuments are amazing!  Unfortunately, this winter has been brutal, so the blossoms weren’t quite ready the day of the race.  There were a few trees with blooms, but not many.  Luckily, the city really is beautiful with blooms and without. 🙂

This year, I decided to power walk the 5k instead of running.  About a month and a half ago I fell down metal stairs and landed on a stone platform (ouch!).  I think I bruised my bone and have been experiencing pain during certain exercises and even when I’m just doing normal day-to-day activities (I know, I need to get it checked out).  I tried to run in the beginning of the race, but quickly realized that wasn’t a good idea.  Instead, I decided I was going to walk as fast as I could.  Honestly, there were several moments I thought about just turning around and quitting; I was in pain.  But, instead I pushed forward.  I finished.  I didn’t die.  And, I wasn’t dead last. Yay!!!! Lol

I was incredibly sore for the rest of the day and have been moving around like an old lady, but I’m glad I didn’t quit.  Just like I’m glad I have not quit and given up on my weight loss goals.  I’m not where I want to be.  I haven’t made the progress I was hoping I would. BUT, I’m pushing forward.

Have you ran or walked a 5k?  Which one is your favorite?

Have you experienced a moment when you wanted to quit?  What helped you push forward?

Ok, so, first of all, Dev is so cute! His mohawk is ADORBS! He’s getting so big, too! What a doll! Secondly, I want to commend you for your commitment to your weight loss goals and healthy living. And, for your commitment to this blog and journaling the process — even when it’s plain hard. Friday night sounds awful, but I know you got up the next morning and threw a stellar birthday party your boy will never forget! Congratulations on completing the 5k and pushing forward! YOU GOT THIS GIRL!

Aww, thanks girl. Life is hard and this journey seems even harder right now, but I know I just have to keep pushing forward! It’s funny you mentioned Dev’s mohawk because we were on our way to the barber shop when my tire blew! I was frantically trying to get him to the shop the next morning before the party, but there was so much to do and such little time. I was bummed he didn’t have a fresh cut for his party, but he was still pretty adorable if I do say so myself, lol. 🙂
