“Count it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, when you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
-James 1:2
Gary and Alea Hemlick recount the 2016 CrossFit Regionals in this episode, reflecting on when they both won a seat at the CrossFit Games, and how special that time was for them and the members of their box, CrossFit Revamped.
Since then, Gary and Alea have been quietly working on growing their family, but share that not everything has gone according to plan. The two open up about struggling to get pregnant but how the experience has brought them closer to God, and to each other.
They share strategies any couple can use to cope in a difficult time, including never downplaying the other’s feelings, finding support outside of your spouse—from others in the same situation, having constant/open communication with each other, and not being afraid to open about what’s happening; you never know who your story more reach.
In this episode we rediscover what it means to rely on God— in the good times, and not so good. We talk about finding the blessings in disguise, and the beauty of surrendering control to our Creator; even if it means also surrendering a personal dream or plan.
This episode was extremely special for us (Aaron & Sara) because it reminded us of what we’d been through with our oldest son, who is a big part of the reason we started this podcast!
If you’re a believer or a person whose relied on God during a difficult time, this episode is most certainly for you!
